    Design critics, editors and educators alike questioning legibility, commercial viability and other elements that were hard for people to understand when they hadn't seen it before. Now they're the first to celebrate what they once questioned in a negative tone. That's how I read reactions to it back in the day, though I could be wrong as a lot of time has passed.

    Okay, I think I see. Maybe I was reading you backwards. You're saying that critical opinion TOWARD Emigre changed: Emigre began getting favorable notices from people who formerly denigrated it? (How I was reading it: the writers and critics IN Emigre did an about face, to which I'd reply: Huh?)
